Convide as a Highlight at ICSM 2024
On 31 October and 1 November 2024, the 8th International Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing (ICSM) was held at Tongji University in Shanghai. The conference, aimed at bridging research and industry practices, provided a platform for exchanging insights on the challenges and opportunities in modern product engineering.
Six renowned keynote speakers from academia and industry presented their innovative approaches and engaged with participants on the necessity of consistently integrating sustainability into product engineering and production engineering. A highlight of the conference was the keynote by Professor Albert Albers from the IPEK – Institute of Product Engineering at KIT. His presentation, titled “Consistency as a Crucial Factor in Product-Production-CoDesign - Handling Complexity in Development Processes,” showcased approaches, particularly the model of SGE – System Generation Engineering and methods for maintaining consistency in complex product engineering processes. These approaches are based on collaborative research between computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering conducted within the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) Convide at KIT.
Professor Albers’ lecture garnered significant interest, leading to a lively discussion that underscored the relevance of the CRC‘s work for the industry. The conference clearly demonstrated that consistency in product enigneering is a critical issue for companies and justifies continued intensive research.
